There´s nothing more thrilling than starting to plan your next trip together with your life partner. Holidays approach and imagination flies far away: exotic places, unknown cultures, paradisiacal beaches, nights under the stars… The possibilities are as infinite as your imagination.

There´s still so much to discover! Sometimes it´s difficult even the first step of picking the destination, that´s why the first thing you must do is deciding what you really feel like doing, what do you want your holidays to be like.

Are you the kind of couple who love to lie on the beach for days under the sun or, on the other hand, you´d rather rent a van and drive the long open road in search of the unknown?

There´s a perfect destination for each type of trip, that place where your dreamt holidays can come true. In order to help you find it, we have made a selection of the best destinations and travel ideas for couples.

Medieval romance in Bruges and Ghent

Two fairytale cities that create the perfect scenario to live your love story. Little stoned streets, red brick buildings and beautiful canals to walk by and just enjoy each other.

These are two of the best preserved medieval cities in Europe. Bruges seems to be stuck in time, with its buildings perfectly conserved like relics from the past. Small and coquette, its streets will make you fall in love at first sight.

Ghent, which could perfectly be Bruges´ bigger sister, has nevertheless nothing to envy. With a lower density of tourists, walking across its downtown and enjoying the city's magnificent monuments is a charming experience.

If you don´t have much time for your holidays, this option becomes especially interesting, since we´re talking about little cities that you can tour in short periods of time. You can fly to Brussels and move with the train from one city to the other in a matter of 2 hours. Once the journey is set, just get some comfy sneakers on and enjoy the walk.

From NOLA to LA by train

An epic ride heading west on the legendary Sunset Limited, the train that rides the oldest railway in United States and that has run uninterruptedly since 1894.

The route begins at the pace of jazz in New Orleans, before crossing the border to New Mexico, continuing to Arizona just before reaching the final destination by the golden beaches of Los Angeles. Some call this journey the “Route 66 of train routes”.

Through the windows of the Sunset Limited you´ll see the mexican border, the southwest deserts and California´s mountains.

The train leaves every monday, wednesday and saturday from New Orleans. The whole route takes about 48 hours, although you´ll be able to get off in any of the stops and get back in (two days after when it passes again, of course). You can get further info here.

Beach and mountains in the Balearic Islands

Why choosing when you can have it all? Balearic Islands, in Spain, offer the perfect combination of beach and mountain, mixed together with a nice and stable weather all year long (the average temperature is between 16º and 18º).

All five islands, located in the western Mediterranean, are a perfect destination for couples who seek to get the most out of their holidays and are not willing to give up anything. Here you´ll find paradisiacal beaches, sunsets, fishing villages and an exuberant nature.

In addition, the sea and the mountains will allow you to practice an infinite list of activities: trekking routes, scuba diving, paddle surf, cycling, climbing… There´ll be no time for getting bored! You can always, of course, choose to look for one of the quiet and beautiful spots in the islands and just relax enjoying the landscape.

The northern lights in Norway

Northern lights are one of the most impressive and unique wonders that nature gives us. Near the Polar Arctic Circle, when the night falls, the sky gets dyed with green lights that draw a beautiful dance. This is a magical moment to share with no one else but your most loved one.

The north of Norway, specifically the city of Tromsø, is one of the best places in the world to enjoy this phenomenon. The lights appear in this area an average of 200 nights a year, although the recommended time to go is from the end of September until the end of March.

The old cultures of the north always believed there was some magic behind the lights, and tried to explain it through different legends. One of these stories is the viking´s myth that relates the northern lights with the reflections of the shields of the Valkyrie´s warriors.

Island hopping in the Philippines

The Philippines archipielago, composed by more than 7.100 islands, is a wonderful destination for couples: white sand beaches with tall palm trees, coral reefs where diving is a dream, wild jungles, desert islands to feel like a castaway… A total disconnection in the middle of the Pacific Ocean!

At Bohol Island you´ll be able to spot the world´s smallest primates, the Tarsier; in Corón, you´ll swim amidst coloured fishes and whale sharks; at the Nest you´ll find postcard-standard beaches…

Remember: it´s more than 7.100 islands, so just explore, find your dreamt island and organize your trip. The best idea is to move from one island to another and discover all the different landscapes that the Philippines hide.

They say that “whoever loves you, will make you travel”. So take that “special one” and head into the next adventure. Organize some holidays that you´ll never forget in that destination that is made just for both of you and create a memory that will never vanish.
