As we have been saying in previous posts, Mallorca is a place which offers a large variety activities. The sports sector encompasses many of the islands´ activities, with a wide sports offer that, together with the good weather, allow one to practice the majority of these disciplines, throughout the most part of the year.
Today we will talk about all kinds of sea sports that can be practiced in Mallorca. Here we offer a list of sports that can be practiced on the island together with some schools which offer lessons:
Paddle surf: This sport consists in hopping on a board, somewhat bigger and more stable than the conventional surf board, and shifting through the sea with an oar. It is the perfect discipline for those who want to have a first contact with the water sports without taking many risks, or for those who are looking for a quiet pastime. Being an easy activity makes it perfect for practicing as a family.
WindSurf: This sport is also practiced on a board, but unlike the paddle surf, by windsurfing the board has a small sail attached to it, which allows it to use the force of the wind for shifting. With a little bit more excitement and speed, windsurf is a great sport for having fun, getting acquainted with the sea and learning to understand the wind. In Mallorca there are many schools that offer one-week lessons perfect for those who are enjoying a few vacation days on the island.
KiteSurf: Of the three board disciplines that we mentioned, is kitesurf undoubtedly the riskiest, although it still remains quite easy to learn. By kitesurf, the person has their feet attached to a board and with the arms holding a kite, thus harnessing the power of the wind in order to move. Using the wind, one can do jumps and spins, but always being very careful. It’s the perfect sport for speed and adrenaline enthusiasts who want to practice a sport in the sea, and begin to understand the way the wind works.
Diving: The mallorcan seabed hides many beautiful places, worthy of exploring. The island offers the possibility for diving or snorkeling, for different levels.
Canoeing: Although this discipline is often practiced in calmer and shallower waters than those of the sea, there are many light sail schools that rent kayaks with which you can organize small excursions to investigate the mallorcan coast without going too much into the sea.
Boating: Mallorca, and more precisely its capital, Palma de Mallorca is currently one of the most important sites in the Mediterranean. The Real Club Nautico de Palma celebrates important saling races of the size "King's Cup" or the "Trophy Princesa Sofia" which are world famous. Also throughout the year there are held many nautical fairs in various locations of the island, with "Boat show Palma" being the most famous of them all. This event, which this year will be held from April 28 to May 2, represents an intensively maritime environment which combines perfectly the commercial consumerism, which reaches out to all the business types on the market, with the practice of navigation and sea sport, in any of their specialities.
Jet skis, boats and Flyboard: Although they aren’t strictly sports, it’s possible to practice a lot of sea activities related to jet skis, boats that drag donuts and bananas with people on them, or large parachutes with which you can fly several meters above the water.
Another more recent activity is the flyboard, which consists of a backpack attached to a platform that gathers the water from the sea, and then expels it vertically with a lot of pressure, allowing the person which carries the backpack to elevate themselves above the water, with help of the pressure. These kinds of activities are perfect for spending time with the family and/or the friends, enjoying the speed and the strong sensations.
As you can see, the sea offers all kinds of activities designed for all audiences, ages and pockets, so that the only thing left to do is to investigate the links provided and decide which will be your favorite water activity for the upcoming holiday.
