Spending all your time lying lazy on the beach is so yesterday! For a long time, Mallorca has become a dream destination for many outdoor activities. Hiking here is in very high demand: in the mild climate of the Balearic Islands you can actively relax while on the road on marvellous tours, addressing various styles and with different difficulty levels. From idyllic coastal walks up to the impressive Tramuntana Mountains, we offer you suggestions for five beautiful routes to experience during your hiking holidays in Mallorca!
Discover Mallorca coast and its nature
An equally popular as well as varied trail along the coast of Mallorca leads from the parking area on the Cala Portals Vells bay for about eight kilometres to the Cap de Cala Figuera. At the beginning, it goes through shady pine forests and migrates thereafter to the rocky coast and arid Mediterranean scrubland from one bay to another. Fantastic views of the individual bays, rare species of birds and a decayed light make the best of this 2.5-hour tour, during which a fantastic nature is experienced, without significant elevation variation.
Length: 8 km
Duration: 2.5 hrs
Difficulty level: Easy
Highlights: Panorama, rare birds, lighthouse
Hiking in Mallorca: varied vegetation in the nature park
In Nature Park Peninsula de Levante, very close to Hotel Ferrer Janeiro, hikers can choose between numerous day routes. The tour to the Puig de sa Tudossa, for example, leads from the tight uphill of Artà, past the wild ruins of a former military camp, offering great vantage points over the Alcudia Bay. From there, you can go next to the refuge of s'Arenalet on the shore, where you can relax your tired feet in the sea after so much walking.
Along the coast it goes then again, steadily uphill. Once arriving at the top, you are rewarded with a view of the neighbouring island of Menorca, before the route goes downhill to the starting point.
Length: 19.7 km
Duration: 6 hrs
Difficulty: demanding
Highlights: panorama, pause with possibilities of swimming
Monastery, dragons, cliffs
This well-maintained hiking trail is 10 kilometres long, but can be easily shortened and is ideal for beginners or anyone interested in practicing hiking. From Sant Elm in the West of the island, the route leads up to the ruins of La Trapa Monastery, offering great views of the sea and of the Dragon Island natural reservation. After a rest at the monastery ruins, we continue to Cap Fabioler and its spectacular, 400-meter, steeply-rising rocky coast. During the summer months, the return to Sant Elm can be done by boat with a stop at the uninhabited Dragon Island – a wonderful end for your hiking trip.
Length: 10 km
Duration: 3 hrs
Difficulty: Easy
Highlights: panorama, monastery ruins, rocky cliff, detour to Dragon’s Island
Adventurous tours in the World Heritage Reservation of Tramuntana
Tramuntana Mountains in the Northern part of the island are a paradise for hikers. There are countless exciting tours that can be done, one of the easier leading to the impressive cave Avenc de Son Pou. From the starting point in the Oriental at the Son Perot farm, it goes slowly through charming landscapes, including a waterfall and in fewer than two hours you can be at the cave, with its bizarre stalactite formations, numerous chambers and a mystical atmosphere. During the hiking holidays in Majorca, the visitor is connected to fascinating natural shows. Before preparing the next day of hiking, you can spend some wonderful hours relaxing at the spa of the Ferrer Hotels.
Length: 4 km
Time: 2 hrs
Difficulty: Easy
Highlights: waterfall, cave
The Massanella - the highlight of the Mallorca Mountains
This tour to the highest accessible point of the island requires good physical condition and safe shoes, but the reward is the spectacular panorama. From Infocentre Serra de Tramuntana at Lluc, it goes first slowly uphill, then descends to a rocky wall, reaching a plateau with stunning views of the surrounding peaks. Rocky and narrow paths lead off a barely marked trail until the summit of Massanella at an altitude of 1,365 meters.
The way down is initially equally adventurous, as it leads you back at the monastery starting point through a wide forest.
Length: 15 km
Duration: 7 hrs
Difficulty: Requires safe walking shoes
Highlights: Summit panorama
Mallorca offers breath-taking hiking tours for all tastes. Experience the holiday island at its best – walk through fascinating landscapes and far away from the tourist crowds.
