If you’re looking for things to do in Majorca this weekend, then you’re in luck. It happens to be the weekend of the World Series Powerman Duathlon – where, for second consecutive year, fierce athletes from around the world come together to run, cycle, and run again, alongside Mallorca’s stunning coastline. If you’re not taking part, you can cheer on the contestants and admire the beauty of this remarkable island. Here are more details on the event:
- What you need to know about Powerman Majorca:
The Powerman World Series is taking place this Saturday the 25th of February. It consists of a 10km run, 60km cycle, and another 10km run. This is the common distance for Powerman duathlons. However, there are other distances for beginners and more extreme athletes. For beginners, the race is a 5km run, 30km bike ride, and 5km run. And for the more adventurous and prepared, there’s a 10km run, 120km cycle and 20km run. The test will take place in Classic and Sprint modes on a flat track along the coast. The cycling route runs along roads of scenic beauty, with demanding ups and downs. You can view the race schedule here.
- Why a duathlon?
Duathlons might not be as popular as triathlons, but they’re just as challenging and arguably harder (running long distances is very taxing). The running and cycling combination works great together. They’re easy to practice sports, and they form part of most people’s leisure time activities, since many people can’t swim. It’s also a great form of active recovery. After a run, moving your legs with an easy bike ride can increase blood flow, flush out lactate, reduce muscle and joint stiffness, and help you get back on the trails sooner.
- Registration and fees
For the individual classic and classic relay, the price is 120 euros, and for the Powerman Single Sprint and Sprint relay, 35 euros. There are also registration and accommodation packages available that include a two-night stay in a double room at Ferrer Janeiro Hotel and Spa. This package works out quite cheap, especially if you register in advance.
- Accommodation
Ferrer Hotels, the main sponsor and organiser of Powerman Majorca, offers comfortable accommodation in the heart of the Powerman action. Ferrer Concord and Ferrer Janeiro are situated in the perfect location for both participants and observers. We also have a safe garage for bicycles, where you can park, rent, or fix up your bicycle. Can Picafort and Puerto de Alcudia is a haven for triathletes – multiple cycling routes for all levels, safe swimming beaches, and close to Finca Son Real – a perfect spot for running.
If you’re coming to participate in the Powerman Duathlon, here are some other great things to do in Majorca:
- Hike the Serra de Tramuntana
The Serra de Tramuntana is a beautiful mountain range that forms the northern backbone of Majorca. It’s a great spot for hiking, trail running, walking, cycling, or even just a drive to enjoy the scenery. There are also little towns along the mountain that are worth a visit: Deia, Valldemossa, and Pollenca.
- Go rock climbing
Mallorca has some of the most incredible rock climbing in the world, from single pitch sports routes to some of the best deep soloing. In fact, it’s a world-class venue for Deep Water Soloing. Most of the rock climbing in Mallorca is centred around the impressive Tramuntana Mountains or along the beautiful coastline.
