Majorca has become a training paradise for cyclists and triathletes, with stunning routes through the Serra Tramuntana Mountains, simple streets along the coast, and pristine Mediterranean waters. As one of the most popular racing destinations in Europe, it is home to a myriad of sports events. Here are our top picks for Mallorca sports events this summer:

Thomas Cook Ironman

Ironman is an intense long-distance triathlon race, and arguably the hardest one-day endurance race in the world. It takes place in the gorgeous Alcudia, a town in the northern part of Mallorca. The race starts with a 3.8 km 2 loop swim, followed by a scenic 90 km 1 loop cycle up the mountains of the island, and concludes with an intense 42.2 km run along Alcudia’s gorgeous coastline. The race takes place on Saturday, September 24th, 2016. Online registration will set you back 540 Euros plus 8% Active fees. Ironman is not for the faint-hearted; it’s an intense race for only the fittest of athletes.

Palma de Mallorca Marathon

Palma, the gorgeous resort city and capital of Majorca, will be hosting this scenic marathon on Sunday, October 16th, 2016. There are 3 distances: marathon, half marathon and 10 km. Due to the incredible course layout and the exotic appeal of the Balearic Islands, this event is set to become one of the most popular Mallorca sports events. On-site registration is 100 Euros, but you can pay 75–85 Euros if you register early. The race kicks off at the Parc de le Mar, in front of the cathedral, and entrants will run along the stunning promenade of Palma Bay and through the historic downtown. The first five male and female finishers in each distance will receive a trophy.

Transtramuntana TT4500

The TT4500 is an extreme cycling challenge in the beautiful Serra de Tramuntana, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Push yourself to the limit, and admire the Majorcan landscapes as you cycle 230 kms along 12 stunning mountain passes. As the name suggests, the challenge includes 4500m of meters of altitude, making it the highest climb of the Balearic Islands. The race starts and ends in Port de Pollenca, and takes place on October 24th, 2016. Registration fee ranges from 50 to 75 Euros, depending on how early you register.

Challenge Mallorca

The Challenge Mallorca takes place in Peguera, an idyllic town between the coast of Calvia and the foothills of the Serra de Tramuntana. This exhilarating 4-hour challenge is perfect for those who love triathlons but aren’t ready for the intensity of Ironman. The swim circuit is a 1.9 km single lap swim from Tora Beach to Playa de la Romana. This is followed by a 90 km bike course along the coast, passing through impressive uphills and downhills, before heading to the majestic Serra de la Tramuntana. It ends off with a breathtaking (but demanding) 21 km run between the boulevard and the maritime boardwalk. The registration fee is either 205 or 225 Euros for individual entrants, depending on when you register.
