Tine Holst, triathlete: My motto is “don’t stop believing”, so better try and maybe fail, as you never know if you can do it.

Today in Ferrer Hotels blog we interview Tine Holst one of our ambassadors. Tine is a Danish living in Germany, that after a few years of sailing and skiing decided to go into the world of triathlons and duathlones. Today Tine tells us how her past and present sports life.

How did you get in to Duathlon and Triathlon? What is your favourite discipline and why?

In 2007 at the age of 27, I didn't even know what a Triathlon or Duathlon was: until I spectaced at a triathlon(Ironman) in Frederica, Denmark. I couldn't swim/bike/run (sportive I came from gymnastic, skiing, sailing), but I remember I got affected and was thinking "how difficult can it be" - and I was ready to take the a new challenge. Nine months later, I have learned to swim a bit and not fall off the race-bike ;)

Now my favorite discipline is cycling, because I can explore and enjoy the nature the longest. I am more the outdoor/country girl than a fitness/city girl...

Was there a particular discipline which started your Duathlon/triathlon career?

Yes: the running: I passed two marathons before my first IRONMAN.

If running, What tips would you offer to runners wanting to move into Duathlons/triathlons?

Give it a try! My motto is "don't stop believing", so better try and maybe fail, as you never know if you can do it. Anything is possible if you really want it from your heart and if you are ready to work hard & smart. It is about the journey and not the destination.. thereby I mean you have to learn to enjoy the moment/training before you can reach the destination/goal.

What injury problems have you had to deal with over your career?

Luckily no injuries. I do a a lot to prevent it with nutrition, stretching, coretraining and Physiotherapie and smart Trainingschedules:-)

Unfortunately, I had two serious accidents, that harmed my body in 2009: a serious bike accident in which a car hit me and drove over me. And a skiing accident in which I suffered a crucient ligament rupture in my left knee. Both situations learned me a lot about life, living at the moment, being happy & grateful. My motto "don't stop believing" is always with me since these horrible days of my life.

You came first at Powerman Spain in Mallorca, What are your goals for the upcoming year and beyond?

Yes I was very happy to win the 1st Powerman Sprint on my "home course" at Ferrer Hotel. And also my first race of the season. My goal for this year is to qualify as professional woman for the Ironman World Championship in Hawaii. I attended the world championship in 2010 & 2011 as an amateur after my big accidents and was very grateful to be able to reach my goals despite the huge challenge I had with my 2 accidents. Now I feel ready to try the participation as professional and going to be one of the 35 girls in the world, who qualified in 2016.

What does your weekly training schedule consist of?

It's very variable. It's different every day and week, because it depends on which time of the year it is, how far the big races are away and what´s the actual focus in training are. As an example, a easy recovery week is about 15hrs of swim/bike/run/gym. On an average, a training week includes 25hrs and the longest weeks are 45hrs of effective triathlon training.

Talk us through a normal day?

Eat, train, eat, sleep repeat :-) Some days are also filled with travelling, computer work. On other days I give lectures about motivation & healthy active lifestyle.

What does a typical day of food look like for you? Do you follow a strict nutrition regime? What's your recovery routine like?

Yes/no I am fueled & proud sponsored by Herbalifenutrition / Herbalife 24. That gives me everything I need as a 24hrs athlete. Before, during & after my training and/or races.

On my plate, you will also find a lot of vegetables & fruits, nuts, good oils & fish. I take care of a good hydration and intake of vitamins/ minerals - which of the natural basic from Herbalife I have a wonderfull help. I use Herbalife since 2012 and I feel increasingly better, fitter, healthier and stronger.

In the morning I have my shake, tee and aloe from Herbalife. During my training I use H24 CR7drive & Prolong and Hydrate and latest 30min after each training I have my rebuild endurance/strength shake from Herbalife24, which gives me all I need to recover fast and be ready for the next training. What I eat/drink before, during and after each training/racing has a huge impact of my recovery.

To get enough sleep & rest is also very important in my daily recovery routine.
