Have you ever experienced some fake holidays? We're referring to those moments when you're away from your office but find yourself answering calls and checking emails while seating on the beach. Those are not real holidays.
It´s true that, sometimes, it's hard to just turn our phones off and leave stress and concerns aside. Nevertheless, holidays are not only a privilege, but something necessary for the sake of our well-being, both mental and physical.
In fact, experts recommend to take at least two consecutive weeks, since a shorter period wouldn't really let us get away and recover energies in a proper manner. The ideal scenario is considered to be three weeks.
These days should be dedicated to rest, sleep, relax… And we shouldn't necessarily identify travelling with being on holidays, since sometimes being a tourist can be stressful and you won't really be rested by the end of the trip.
If everything goes well, after your holidays you'll find yourself renewed and more energetic by the time you´re back at the office.
But for that, you'll have to make sure the holidays accomplish their goal. So, what's in your hands to try and make sure you unwind? Well, we've gathered some tips you might find useful to give your mind and body a well-deserved rest:
Change your routines
Leave your habits home and shake that stress off by trying new things, making different plans and living experiences. Not only it will refill your energies, but you'll also take great memories out of it and, just maybe, you´ll discover a new passion.
Forget about your phone, your tablet and your laptop
The only thing filling your suitcase must be swimsuits, flip-flops, a camera… Hang the “Closed” sign and stop answering emails and calls. You´re in your holidays and, even though you might feel otherwise at first, the world won't end if you leave some tasks unfinished until your return. Focus on the landscapes and the people around you and just enjoy them as much as possible.
Try meditation
If you have a stressful daily basis, use your holidays to learn to meditate. This practice will help you relieve stress, rest your mind and letting creativity in.
Start with some minutes every day and progressively increase the time of meditation. Focus on your breathing and leave all thoughts aside. Be patient, it is hard to empty your mind at the beginning, but with practice you'll notice the results.
Take naps
Yes, we're talking about siesta. Give yourself that little pleasure that your work hours don't allow you to. Just lay down after lunch, no matter if it's in the beach or in the living room, and close your eyes until they feel like opening again.
Don´t wear a watch
Who cares about time when you're on holidays? Stop checking the hour every five minutes and allow your body to be the one to tell you when it feels like sleeping, eating or going to the beach. And, for once, act against the popular saying: leave for tomorrow what you don't feel like doing today… Because you're on holidays!
Get hooked on a book or a TV series
There's no better way to divert your thoughts than diving into the story of a book or a TV series. Your mind will appreciate that dose of thrill, imagination and entertainment. Take your time and practice your hobbies. Do whatever you like together with your loved ones.
